t’s really the sweet spot for an ocarina’s tuning. One of this ocarina’s greatest strengths lies in its effortlessly clear high notes. They’re not airy, they don’t require the acute bend, and their breath requirements aren’t all that demanding either. They just work!
The sub holes were a letdown. Compared to the rest of the notes, they’re noticeably weak and require a pretty substantial breath cut if you want to keep them in tune. Better to just keep it a 10-hole if the sub holes are that quiet. Overall the breath requirements are generally low, thus the projection isn't the strongest.
Additional items included a carrying bag, and their 12-hole Zelda songbook that’s full of ocarina tabs.
The biggest flaw wasn’t in the ocarina’s construction but rather the packaging. There was no bubble wrap, or the usual packing peanuts, to be found. Thankfully, the carrying pouch was snug in the box. I’m guessing this is what kept it safe. In over a year of shopping at Songbird, this is the first time I’ve experienced this. Hopefully, it was just a one-time thing?
Despite that, I’d still recommend this ocarina! It’s a faithful replica, fairly ergonomic, sounds great, and overall is a joy to play. I’m pretty happy about my purchase. Read Less
